DAY TRIP
HISTORY AND MONUMENTS OF MONGOLIA
Trip Summary
The Mongol Empire was the largest continuous land empire and the second largest empire overall in world history, after the British. At its height, it stretched from the Danube to the Sea of Japan and from Novgorod to Cambodia, covering over 12,741,000 sq mi or 22% of the Earth’s total land area, with an estimated population of about 100 million people. The success of the Mongol Empire exceeds any other world conquerors in its preceding time and afterwards, including those of Alexander the Great and Napoleon. The empire reached its zenith during the Khubilai Khan who conquered all of China and establishing the Great Yuan Dynasty. The time between 14th century till early 20th century saw Mongolia’s disintegration into smaller parts and was eventually conquered and ruled by the Qing Dynasty for 350 years, which ended in 1911.
